News

In preparation for the highly anticipated 2024 test match series set in Las Vegas, Wheelchair Rugby League Australia (WRLA) has been taking concrete steps to support a strong campaign.

Train-on squad

WRLA Chair Martin Meredith advises that a train-on squad of up to fifteen players will be announced during the first week of October.

Wheelaroos Camps

WRLA plans to run up to three camps between October and January, with dates and locations to be advised soon.

An impending change to international rules

WRLA has been notified overnight that the International Rugby League will soon announce changes to international rules, reducing the number of game-day players from 10 to 8.  This will also decrease the number of players in the touring team by two.

Proposed departure date

It is planned that the Wheelaroos team and officials will depart Australia on 24 February 2024.

Officials’ positions

Martin Meredith advises that WRLA has received over 35 high-calibre applications for the advertised official positions.  A decision will be made on successful applicants over the next ten days, and people will be advised of the outcome directly.

Fundraising

A fundraising page for the campaign has been set up on the Australian Sports Foundation. Please share the campaign amongst contacts, family and friends.

A sponsorship document will be distributed shortly. It is a generic document that can be developed further should you become aware or know of a potential sponsor.
