Wheelaroos continue World Cup preparations at Sydney camp

The Australian Wheelaroos have continued preparations for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, coming together for another national team camp in Sydney today.

The camp brought the Wheelaroos squad together for an important day of training and preparation as the countdown continues towards the Rugby League World Cup in October and November. 

It came on the eve of the 2026 NRL Wheelchair State Challenge, with many of the Wheelaroos set to swap national teammates for interstate rivals when New South Wales and Queensland meet at Bennelong Sports Centre in West Ryde tomorrow.

Wheelaroos Head Coach Brett said the camp provided another valuable opportunity for the squad to build combinations and continue developing as a group.

“Every opportunity we have together is important as we get closer to the World Cup,” Brett said.

“There is a really strong sense of purpose within this group. We’re continuing to work on our combinations, our communication and the way we want to play, but just as importantly we’re building that connection as a team.

“Tomorrow they’ll be competing against each other and there will be plenty of passion when New South Wales and Queensland take the pitch, but today it was about the Wheelaroos and what we want to achieve together.

“The State Challenge will also give the players another opportunity to play high-quality Wheelchair Rugby League under pressure, which is exactly what we need as our World Cup preparations continue.”

The Wheelaroos are preparing for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, with the wheelchair tournament to be played in Wollongong from 30 October to 13 November.
