Wheelchair Rugby League Australia (WRLA) is pleased to announce the immediate appointment of Kristie Laird to the Board as a Director, filling a casual vacancy.

Kristie brings a wealth of experience in community rugby league, communications and marketing, combined with a strong background in governance and leadership. She is a current Board Director of the NSW Community Rugby League Association and has made significant contributions to the sport at grassroots and regional levels.

WRLA Chair Martin Meredith said:
“Kristie’s extensive experience, dedication to community sport and expertise in communications and governance make her a valuable addition to our Board. We look forward to her insights and contributions as we work to grow Wheelchair Rugby League across Australia. Her passion for community engagement and skill set aligns with WRLA’s vision to elevate the sport’s profile in metropolitan, regional and rural areas.”

Kristie’s achievements include receiving the Gordon Lowrie Community Rugby League Volunteer of the Year Award (2020) from NSW Rugby League (NSWRL) and being a finalist for the NRL Volunteer of the Year Award. She has completed leadership programs, including Female Leaders – Get on Board through Sport NSW and the Women in Sports Leadership Program with NSWRL. Kristie also participated in the Empowered to Lead scholarship program run by Play Like a Girl Australia.
