Gold Coast to host 2026 LCA NRL Wheelchair National Championship

The 2026 LCA NRL Wheelchair National Championship will be held from 10–12 July 2026 at the Coomera Sports Centre, Gold Coast, bringing together seven representative teams from across Australia and New Zealand.

Teams from Central and South East Queensland, North Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria, the Affiliated States and New Zealand will compete for national honours in what promises to be one of the most exciting events on the Wheelchair Rugby League calendar.

The championship will also serve as a key selection event for the Australian Wheelaroos ahead of the Rugby League World Cup later this year, adding further significance and intensity to the national tournament.

Anna Fitzgerald, CEO of NRL Wheelchair, said:

“The LCA NRL Wheelchair National Championship is one of the most important events on our annual calendar, bringing together the best Wheelchair Rugby League players from across Australia and New Zealand.

“With Rugby League World Cup selection on the line, the championship provides athletes with the opportunity to earn national selection and represent Australia on the international stage.

“We expect an outstanding level of competition and three days of fast-paced, high-quality Wheelchair Rugby League as teams battle for championship glory on the Gold Coast.”

The event is proudly supported by Leagues Clubs Australia, Astris PME and Experience Gold Coast, whose support continues to help create opportunities for participants and strengthen the growth of Wheelchair Rugby League across Australia.

“Leagues Clubs Australia is proud to partner with the NRL Wheelchair Championship, which showcases outstanding athletic talent and fierce competition, but also the inclusive spirit and community values that rugby league represents.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting initiatives that create opportunities, break down barriers and strengthen connections through sport,” said Don Hammond, CEO of Leagues Clubs Australia.

Mayor Tom Tate said the Championship is another example of the Gold Coast’s commitment to creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities to shine on a national stage.

“Our city is on a roll with the NRL Wheelchair Championship back for a second year,’’ said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.

“Hosting this national title confirms that we continue to support some of the best adaptive and inclusive sporting festivals on offer. In 2018, we hosted the Commonwealth Games including a full para-athlete program. The 2026 NRL Wheelchair Championship will allow the best wheelie competitors in Australia to showcase their incredible skills.

“I urge all Gold Coasters to get courtside at Coomera and cheer on Australia’s best rugby league wheelies.’’

Fans and supporters can look forward to high-quality matches, expert officiating, and an electric atmosphere as the teams compete for national glory.
