NSW undefeated after two days of competition

New South Wales remain undefeated after two days of the 2026 LCA NRL Wheelchair Championship at Coomera Indoor Sports Centre at the Gold Coast.

Both NSW and North Queensland were undefeated leading into the final game of the day, but a hard-fought, fiery battle between the two powerhouses ended with a 22-18 win to NSW.

Dynamic and pacey NSW winger Cory Cannane – a mainstay in the game since 2013 – said it felt “really good” to be the only unbeaten team and he was confident his side could maintain their fine form into the final day of competition.

NSW edged North Queensland for top team in Round 2; both teams scored 21 tries each in Round 2, but NSW landed two more conversions.

“The boys, we put in a lot of time for the preparation for these games, so it was really good to make it through undefeated so far,” Cannane, who is in the Wheelaroos extended squad for the 2026 RLWC, said.

“The competition is really strong. Everyone’s come out really strong, so it has been really good.

“Our game against North Queensland has been the best game so far, that we’ve competed in… feels good to come away with that win.

“We will follow through tomorrow.”

North Queensland weapon Bayley McKenna backed up his Round 1 form as the round’s top try scorer, with seven tries in Round 2, and NSW gun Rick Engles wasn’t far behind with five – most of his output came in the Affiliated States game where he scored a hat-trick and 10 conversions.
