Be Part of the Game

Become a Match Official

Match Officials play a vital role in the success and growth of Wheelchair Rugby League. From refereeing and timekeeping to scorekeeping and managing the flow of play, our officials ensure games are fair, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

As a volunteer, you’re not just helping run the sport—you’re helping shape its future. Wheelchair Rugby League is an inclusive game where men, women, boys and girls, with and without disabilities, can all compete together.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, who give their time and energy to support players, clubs, and competitions across Australia.

How to Qualify as a Match Official

Becoming an accredited Match Official is simple, and no previous experience is required.

To qualify, you’ll need to:

1. Complete the Wheelchair Rugby League Match Officials Online Training Course

  • This course covers the rules, game management, and best practices to ensure you’re confident and ready to officiate.

2. Attend a practical workshop

  • These face-to-face workshops are scheduled at various locations throughout the year.
  • The next session will be on the Gold Coast prior to the LCA NRL Wheelchair Championships on Thursday 30 October 2025.
  • Click here for the next available sessions near you.

3. Hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)

  • As part of our commitment to providing a safe environment for all players, every official must have a current WWCC for their state or territory.

Once these requirements are completed, you’ll be eligible to officiate at Wheelchair Rugby League events across Australia.
