Wheelchair Rugby League Australia (WRLA) is pleased to announce ABC SPORT as the official radio broadcast partner of this year’s State Challenge, to be held at 3 pm, Saturday, 8th July 2023, at Quaycentre, Sydney Olympic Park.

ABC Sport will broadcast the State Challenge live on ABC Radio, with legendary sports announcer Andrew Moore calling the match play-by-play from the sidelines.

WRLA Chair Martin Meredith said, “We are delighted that the ABC has joined to broadcast this important Wheelchair Rugby League game. It is an exciting time for our sport as we build on the momentum of the recent top-three finish at the Rugby League World Cup. Having a broadcast partner with the professionalism and reach of the ABC will shine the spotlight on this international, inclusive sport.”

Nick Morris, Manager ABC Sport said: “The ABC is excited to broadcast this year’s Wheelchair Rugby League State Challenge. Led by Andrew Moore, the Grandstand Rugby League team will bring you all the excitement, along with the big hits, of the sport which made such a big impression on audiences at the recent Rugby League World Cup.”

The Blues and Maroons Wheelchair teams will be fiercely contesting the interstate title. Last year Queensland emerged as the winner. A few months ago, many of the players were team-mates playing for Australia’s representative team at the World Cup in the UK. It’s a not be missed match.

Coverage will be live on Saturday afternoon, 8 July from 3 pm, on ABC Radio, ABC SPORT digital radio, the ABC SPORT website or via the ABC Listen app.
